My Favorite Things of 2016 - Day #20

I have adored all of Laika's films, so it should be no surprise that their latest effort makes its way onto this list.

Kubo and the Two Strings is a magical story about stories. It's a story of family, loss, courage, forgiveness and destiny that is both family friendly and exquisitely animated. Laika's blend of stop motion keeps getting better with each movie they make, and once again is breathtaking here.

A good cast help things along, and while things may end up a little predictable, you can't begrudge it when everything is rendered with such care and attention. This is a beautiful film by any standards. It's an original story in an original world that simply bristles with imagination and visual splendor. It's Laika's best yet, and that is high praise.

Make sure you see this film!
