I think...

...October already? Really? Must be having fun I guess because the time sure is flying...

...Civilization 5 is a refinement on the series, what has been changed, has been changed for the better. The depth added in by the much talked about change to combat (in CiV 5 each hex can only hold one military unit, so no more 'stacks of doom') works pretty much the way I imagine the designers were looking for. The game has the usual 'just one more go appeal' that has been the hallmark of the series. The performance issues however are a real shame, even on a very good machine the game can struggle, in particular late in the game on huge maps...a pity for some, given the quality of the rest of the package...

...I might be one of the few out there not to be overawed by Minecraft. I probably shouldn't admit to that, as doing so will somehow make me fundamentally uncool. (if I wasn't already!). Maybe I am just too much of a graphical junkie for it's old school styling, but I also struggle to find that much of an appeal beyond the alchemy inspired puzzle elements. It has certainly struck a chord though, and is a great testament to what the indie scene can produce...

...with Civ 5 and Starcraft 2 still holding the attention, and having some casual fun checking out the free to play versions of EQ2 and LOTRO I haven't had too much time to check out the launch of Final Fantasy XIV. It didn't grab me immediately, but as a fan of the series I really want to give it some more time, and see how it settles in on me. Just need to find the time!

...Fringe is still one of the best shows on TV at the moment. Mainly thanks to John Noble's continued excellence as Walter. Seriously, I could watch him all day and not tire of it...Season three has started off really well, and is taking things in interesting directions. It will be interesting to see if they keep managing to balance the on-going storyline with their 'threat of the week' format, but if this weeks second installment is anything to go by then we are good hands for another season...

I guess Civ 5 and Starcraft are way too mainstream for me to get interested in them anymore. Turning more and more toward smaller games and getting more fun of my bucks overall, wondering if it's my "old pc gamer" at work here or family life taking too much for me to enjoy big games as much as I used to, guess I should give a look at that minecraft.
For Fringe John Noble is certainly great although the show still fails to convince me I just watch it for Walter Bishop. Can't wait for Game of Thrones next year. :)

John Noble is the only thing that elevates Fringe above Alias 2.0, and I was never a fan of Alias. He is undeniably work watching it for.
