Musical interlude...Hellsongs

Spent the evening in the company of one of Sweden's better kept secrets, Hellsongs, in concert here in Oslo. Pitching themselves as the 'softest Metal band in the world' they weren't new to me, but it was the first time I have had the opportunity to catch them live. Touring to support their latest album we couldn't help but go and check them out. As I have mentioned before, if it is musically quirky and unique, I just can't resist!

Taking the staples of 80s Metal like Slayer, Metallica, Twisted Sister and Iron Maiden and re-imaging their songs as if played by an equally 80s folk / pop act, throw in just a vocal hint of Katie Melua, and you are as close to a description of Hellsongs as I can get. I loved their first album when I heard it a few years back (their version of Run to the Hills is awesome!). Mix with some fun stage presence, and you have the making of a great evening.

Here is their take on Iron Maiden to give you a taste of their melodic metal style...

A great night!

Those guys are cool! Jealous that you got to see them in concert. Were there many people there?
